Hello, First I want to say thanks to all that make online sites available to us family research junkies, as myself...
On my Father's side & his Mother's are Persky's from Lithuania & such. Making their way to USA to places like New York, New Jersey, Chicago and California. The parents Gdalia Avrom & Leibe Persky had 5 children. Isador(aka Ike), Mikel(aka Max), Dawid(aka Dave),Benajmin and beautiful Sara Persky. Ike married Ida nee Bailin. Max married Rose nee Palley. Dave married Fanny Novick. Benjamin I believe married an Esther.... and Sara I believe married Itsik Leyba Shtrom. Ike, Max & Dave made their living in the USA later on where they had their families. Both Benjamin & Sara along with family members I believe after made a decision to try & tough it out even with the appending Nazi raid & murder approaching, because they did not want to be a burden to anyway sadly perished in the Holocaust. If anyone thinks I might have mentioned same family members familiar to family members I would love to hear from you to discuss... or any comments or input...Thanks again for everyone involved.

  Dear Jose and others:
I am working on a memorial project to revive the mandolin orchestra of Gora Kalwaria, Poland (Ger) at where my late grand father and his brothers
played. The following link suggests that there was a mandolin orchestra at Kaunus and later at the ghetto as well.

http://books.google.com/books?id=7Ro-

HVbqPbfi7ddHxPM&hl=en&ei=GRqnS8C6No2OtAOt_MAi&sa=
X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CA4Q6AEw
Aw#v=onepage&q=warsaw%20mandolin%

Do you happen to have any information about that mandolin orchestra? photos, repertoire, lyrics, the members, clothes, a testimony?

Thanks for all that you do!

Wow, I am amazed that this site even exsits. It can help us piece together where the Dunns and others came from way back in that great expanse simply known to many as "Russia". If we all supply a little information on what we know, together we can build back up a great, and ever expanding jigsaw puzzle. Good work, genius...how can I help? I have some info on Dunn's going back to Emanuel Dunn who married Riva Abelsson, who
was father to at least half brothers Simon (my great grandfather) and U.S WW1 soldier Charles Dunn. Emanuel would have been uncle to Lazarus/Lazerus and Harris Dunn, a master tailor, and grocer respectively, in late 19th century, early 20th century Jewish London.

Any queries, drop us an email...

  Hi Jose and others,

I am from Kaunas, Lithuania. My aunt is living in Kaunas, Zaliakalnis, Zanavyku St. In her wooden house attic she have found some old photos, we believe that in these photos there are Jewish people. Some photos are with remarks and date of 1912, 1922. As we understand some photos were sent from US to Lithuania by Lili Cassel, later Betencourt. I do not know if there is any interest of these photos, at first I can scan it and send via email. Please contact me, if someone is interested.

Very intrigued about the Zosler lists. My great great grandparents were from there & saw both last names on the list. They were Eliezer Lippe Shapiro & Cherne nee Sakir I believe. I did find them in gencircles.com but was looking for some info here.

  Dear Jose:
I was delighted to find your website and although I have only taken a cursory look - find it an excellent effort and plan to come back, if I may. My mother's family (Lenchner) were primarily from Musnik but I met a cousin who was married to a DON. There is also a Gutstein connection on my chart (not currently handy right now as I had a recent crash and working to restore same from my hard copy.) I visited the area in 1992/94 and
found a 94-year-old niece of my mother's who passed a lot of info before passing in 1995. I would love to explore our possible connection further. Incidentally, on father's side, from Mariampole, he had a sister Becky, married to a Goodstein and they lived in Brooklyn, NY.
Congratulations on your very informative and well done effort.

Great site! My great grandfather, Piotr Mokrzecki, was from Zasliai. He came to the United States around 1895 and eventually settled in Hadley, Massachusetts. His siblings were Alvira (Mokrzecki) Butler; Genoefa (Mokrzecki) Wysocki; Helena (Mokrzecki) Jakutowicz "Haygood"; Aleksander, who changed his surname to Mann, and possibly a sister named Weronika. Their parents were Aleksander Mokrzecki and Genofewa or Jozefa Nawrocki.

Based on what the family has written down, Aleksander was the clerk at a railroad station before he came to the United States around 1895.  Aleksander's father's first name was probably either Tadeusz or Teodor, since he is recorded on Aleksander's death certificate as Teddy Mokrzecki.

My grandfather, Abraham Dunetz, was from the Vilna area. He arrived in the US in 1904. He is buried in Mt. Hebron Cemetery through the Zosler Protective Association,  Block 13 Grave 9. My grandmother, Ida Bronsnick Dunetz, was from the Kovno area. She arrived in the US in 1906. She is buried in the Acacia Cemetery, through the Zosler Protective Association, Gate 8.

I was researching my fathers heritage and came upon this very sensitive and well put together site. Thank you for giving me the opportunity of once
again seeing my old friend, last seen about 50 years ago in South Africa.

This is the website of my dreams. Thanks so much for the time and careful work that has obviously gone into it. I still have a lot of tracking to do, but family names include Zeltser and Gordon (My grandmother Mary Gordon Zeltzer (daughter of Khaim David Zeltzser (a teacher from Kedainiai or Zeimiai?) was married to to Hyman Loeb Solski of Jonava in 1858. She is buried in S. Jewett Cemetery in the Catskills (NY). There are many other Gordon's listed on gravestones there. I suspect that I am also related to the names beginning with Perel on the Zeimiai family lists.

Question: My other grandmother, last name Pearl/Perel, supposedly had the maiden name "Himmelblau" and came from the same area as the Perel grandfather in Kovna Gubernia. I can find nothing that even vaugely looks or sounds like Himmelblau anywhere in LT. Moreover, on her 100th birthday in 1954 she was interviewed and said that she came from Latvia. Is any part of Kovna Gubernia, where she supposedly came from, part of Latvia?

I can't wait to begin following back your sources on these names. And you can imagine my shock when I opened the Zeimiai website and saw the Gordon store!

Interestingly, all of the Gordon women in the cemetary maintained a Gordon identity, e.g. "Mary Gordon, wife of Sussman Saul." The Zeltser name is dropped, however.

Again, many, many thanks. Any help or insights you could provide would be much appreciated.

Parents came from Moscow and married there. In Russia, the name was Chaimowitz. That's why I check all sites....just in case. Keep working on the site. It's great.

I just studied your Zasliai web page as well as the others which are linked to it. They all have class beyond words--in appearance, presentation, and in the amount of information you have compiled. Beyond that, this is a way of recreating a lost community--a mitzvah clothed in taste and technology at its best. Congratulations on this achievement. You have reason to be immensely proud. Your websites are world class.
